Heavenly Father's Road Map~Baptism Prep series

Last summer we were able to go on a road trip that was over 10 hours long.  With this lesson, I was able to use that to our advantage!  We talked about how long the trip was.  How did we know where to go?

"GPS"
"Heavenly Father"
"Map"
"Street signs"

Man I'm glad they were paying attention! ;)  I explained that a trip, or a journey is anytime between going from one point to another.  I asked where we came from, "Heaven," and where we are going, "back to Heavenly Father."  Therefore, that means our life here on earth is a journey.  How do we know where to go?  What does Heavenly Father give us to guide us back home?

"Prayer"
"Jesus"
"Commandments"
"Prophets"
"Family"
"Scriptures"

All true!  Those things are our road signs back to Heaven.  I explained that there are things on this earth that we HAVE to do in order to make it back.  When we turn eight, we accomplish the first two.  Baptism and the Holy Ghost.

To prepare for this lesson, I created fill-in-the-blank road signs with scripture references.  I printed them and wrote numbers on the backside so we could pick them in order.  Each kid took a turn picking a road sign, looking up the scripture, and reading it.  After each were done, we filled in the blanks.  Then after each one, I'd say, "so, step 1 is? step 2 is?" and so forth, just to help put it in their memories even more.  Filling in the blanks and repeating the steps multiple times really helped with their comprehension of what was going on.

Although they aren't old enough to accomplish the other three yet, they are responsible for preparing to do so now.  The girls can't receive the priesthood, but they have a responsibility to honor it.  Baptism opens the gates for all other things to be accomplished!

Baptism Prep FHE

Ever since my kids were toddlers, I knew I wanted them to really understand the choice they were making when it was time to get baptized.  I don't want them to do it because I want them to or because they think they should.  I want them to understand what covenants they are making and what it really means to get baptized.

Last night we had our first "Great to be 8" that the stake puts on for those turning 8 this year.  It was so exciting and sad!  I am so thrilled for them but I am sad my first babes are old enough to be to this point in life!  How is that possible?!?!  It was a great spirit and I only hope I can keep that spirit and understanding through the year.

These two won't get baptized until December, so I have a year to continue working with them.  I have outlined 12 family home evening lessons on different aspects of baptism.  Every second Monday of the month I will do an FHE lesson.  I will come back to this page to link up each outline with the lesson post.  These are tentative lessons.  As I get into the thick of planning them, I might combine some, or change some all together!  Enjoy!!

30 Days of Halloween~Day 21 Painted Luminaries

Mason jar crafts have been huge within the last year and Halloween time is no different!  I have really fallen in love with Mason Jar luminaries for Halloween!  I am sharing two links because the were made in two totally different ways~both simple and ADORABLE but they give off totally different looks.  Hopefully you'll find one (or two) you like!

Creating Laura shared how she made hers with white spray paint and masking tape!  They are super cute and I love the different faces.  Scary, silly, happy~she did them all and they all look great with her technique!  Click HERE to see her how-to!!

Another version is shared on Crafts by Amanda.  These ones are made with spray paint, in any shade, and a sharpie!  Bright, scary, goofy~it's all there and looking fab!!  Check them out HERE to see how she did hers!

Double time~Daily dose and Blogtember Challenge

Waaaayy too much to do today!  We went to Alexis' soccer game at 8:30.  Then at 8:45 I took Taya to her soccer game from 9-10. After that we all went home for a few minutes..then I took Gage to his game from 11-12 (which I had to fill-in for the coach..even though I've never played a day of soccer)!!  Cory dropped Taya off at a party from 11-1 then he took Haylee to her game from 11:30-12:15.  Right after Gage's game I dropped him off at his party.  Then Alexis had a party from 2-4 and after we went to the Harvest Moon Festival.  Oh wow!!!  Saturdays are usually busier because Haylee and Alexis have dance from 9-10, Taya from 10-11, and Gage from 11-12 but they didn't go today because the games were too in the way...last week they did..boy oh boy!!

I am SO proud of this kid!  He and Taya got the birthday party invitation a week ago and they have been excited ever since!  On Thursday I told him the times were overlapping for the party and his game.  I asked him to decide what he wanted to do.  He was sad, but he said he would go to his game because his team was counting on him..even though he wanted to go to the party!  What a guy!  I love him and am proud!!
Off to her party!!!  She was SOOOO excited!!
But..it didn't last long.  She was too scared to go by herself..even though she plays with these neighbor friends all the time!
So I went with her...Check out this adorable pirate girl!!!
 All her loot!
 SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Afterwards we were headed to the fun..but we got caught up in some fun at home!!!
And as they were taking pictures of us playing they took some pics of themselves....
 Daddy caught Alexis playing tools!
Tried to get Daddy in on the fun...
Taya wanted me to take a picture of her trick! ;)
 Harvest Moon Festival...
Okay...it was actually a huge bust!  We were on our way out when Alexis begged us to sit and listen to the music for "just a minute!"  The other kids didn't want to but we did anyway..and stayed for hours!  They ended up loving the music and it was so much fun!!

Music lifts my soul!
The Patrick Briggs Band from SLC was so awesome!!!
 Sunset over Union Station!
Daddy wanted to grab a bite to eat.. afterwards they were being so goofy! Here's Peyton trying to limbo under the table!
 Gage photo bombed the picture!
 My heart and soul!
After taking that picture Haylee was standing like this..not sure why but it was too cute not to take a picture of..and Gage jumped in too!
Better watch my back with these four!!!
We LOVE Casper at our house.  We have TONS of VHS tapes and used to have a VCR..but it crapped out on us..so we have missed our movies!  I found Casper on DVD for only $4 so I grabbed it up and we watched it!  Yeah!!!!!

Aaaannd...a late night trip to the worst place on earth so I don't have to go to the store on
Sunday! :(

We had a family sleepover/campout in the living room!  I love these nights!!! (and I love that they are all curled up in our big t-shirts)!!
Life gets oh-so busy.  Some days it's non-stop go, like our Thursdays and Saturdays.  Some days it's the mundane every-day stuff that just needs to get done.  Either way..it's busy!!!  My challenge to myself has been to get through the business of life but not to forget to laugh while doing so.
I still want to enjoy life..not just endure it!

Have a happy day~Kasey

Blogtember Challenge~My advice to every person in the whole world....

Sept 19th: If you could give one piece of advice to a large group of people, what would it be?

I really could think of quite a few things to say to this.  I could go on and on about each one too, I'm sure!  But throughout my life, I've seemed to believe in six words, and I believe that every single person in the world should follow them!

LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH NO REGRETS!!!

Say what?  How does that work?  Is that possible?  YES!!  Granted I am only 29 and (hopefully) still have a lot of years ahead of me.  But, if I don't have any regrets from the last nearly 30 years, I won't in the next 30, or the 30 after that!
Does this mean I enjoy or agree with every choice I've ever made?  Not~even~in~the~slightest!

I dated people who hurt me, badly, deeply at the time.

I stood by friends who really were "friends."

I got mediocre grades when I should have had straight A's.

I gave up on opportunities in my life because I was worried about other people.

I made poor choices in regards to my actions.

I kissed a boy I shouldn't have.

I spent too much time focusing on other things, rather than my college education.

I was way too nice to someone who didn't deserve it.

The list could be go on.  I have many things I am not proud of or that really hurt my feel-goods.  Many.  But I wouldn't go back and change them.  Nope, not really.

Well..except one..maybe..

One of the most important people in my life passed away, by his own accord.  A good friend of mine, a mutual friend, called me to give me the news and inform me of the funeral.  I didn't answer.  This girl has been a best friend of mine since we were in 5th grade.  I knew if I was going to answer her phone call that I needed to have a while to chat.  I had four kids under 15 months.  I didn't have the time.  I told myself I'd call her later.  I forgot.  Three weeks passed and I finally called her back.  She broke the news.  I was devastated!  Heck, I am STILL devastated!  I missed his funeral because I didn't pick up the phone!  WHAT?!?!  Not okay!  I sit here and tell you, If I could go back, I would attend his funeral.  I would be there to show love and support this this amazing human being!  But, I can't, and I wasn't.  But guess what~I don't regret that because I learned something from it.  I answer phone calls and I return phone calls.  When I feel so inspired to call or check on someone, by phone, text, email, letter, visit, whatever, I do it.  I may have missed the opportunity for some closure by going to his funeral.  But by doing so, I may have helped someone when they needed it because of what I learned because of this experience.

There are other things we can regret other than the bad moments in life.

Don't miss out on those simple, sweet, loving moments in life because we are too busy. The good we should have done, but didn't. The heartbreaking things we went through, whether by our own choice or the choices of others.  Whichever it is~no regrets.
I've always believed that "everything happens for a reason" and I still believe it.
(and just for extra~I'll give you, what I consider to be the most important piece of advice I've ever directly received.  "Put God first.  Then your studies.  Then your social life.  If you do that, everything will fall into place!")

 Have a happy day~Kasey
