30 Days of Halloween~Day 25 Party games!

Last year I volunteered to be Room Mom for my kids' Kindergarten class.  This year she asked if I wanted to do it again.  SURE!  These were some of the fun games I made for the party.

I found this on Chica and Jo and thought it was so cute!  I made one (and instead of putting the candy corns on the hat, I used orange paper there too) and the kids had fun tossing the candy corns into the cauldrons!
Picture from Chica and Jo

Pin-the-Bow-on-Mr. Bones

This one took some time..but it was a LOT of fun at the party!  I searched the internet until I found a cute little skeleton that I liked and would be easy to draw.  I got a big thing of butcher paper, one black and one white.  I drew the skeleton on the white paper then cute and pasted onto the black paper.  I cute out bowties from orange construction paper and we used them to play the game!  The closest to the neck won!  The kids always seem to enjoy any take on the traditional pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey!

These are fun for any party and are always a hit!

30 Days of Halloween~Day 24 Simple fruit treats

Looking for something quick and easy to throw into those lunch boxes or to bring to school for treats?  These are perfect!!

You simply press three chocolate chips into the banana for a ghost face!  My girls LOVED having these with their lunch and thought it was so fun!
And for these~just draw in a Jack-O-Lantern face.  I used mandarin oranges this time but I've done it with peaches too! These were a fun surprise for the kids in their lunch box.  They thought I was so cool! ;)

30 Days of Halloween~Homemade Toy Story costumes for the family!

I am obsessed with family costumes!  It's quite the topic of conversation every year between my husby and I.  He says they should get to pick what they want every year and be whatever.  I always want a fun family theme.  Last year~I finally won and the kids were SO on board with it!!!  WAHOO!!!!  Can you figure out the theme????
(I borrowed Mrs. Potato Head from a friend but her mom sewed the entire thing so it can be made!!

I did my husband's Mr. Potato Head costume.  I found the brown thing at the DI (local thrift store, Deseret Industries) and it was originally an indian costume.  I cut all the fringe off first.  Then I used paper plates, construction paper, and tape for all the parts.  Super silly but it really worked well and fit the homemade theme!)
We have Barbie... (her shirt and her pants were found at the DI for just $1 and $2.  The belt and shoes we had.)
Jesse... (I got the blouse and the vest at the DI for $3 each.  The jeans and hat we had and the boots are from my son's Woody costume the year before.)
Bonnie... (We got the jumper and shirt from the DI for $2 and $3.  The skirt and shoes we had.)
Buzz... (we found this way-too-small-costume at the DI for $4.  The wings we borrowed from a friend and the boots are his snow boots.)
And Little Bo Peep... (we got her dress from the DI for $2 and borrowed the hook.  She owned the hat, sheep, and shoes.)
Super cute~easily made costumes.  (I have to say my personal fave was Bonnie..perfection)!!!
They obviously don't look identical to the movie but they were homemade costumes and you can do them too!  Check out your local thrift stores, raid your closets, and you can find things that will work perfectly!  We got TONS of compliments and it was a lot of fun to be all together! What will this year bring?!?!

Have a happy day~Kasey

My Witch Cupcakes for Day 11 of my 30 Days of Halloween

These cupcakes for Day 11 are seriously adorable! We did them a few years ago for our "You've Been Booed."  The kids had fun making, decorating, and giving out these
Witch Cupcakes!

Ingredients
~cake mix (and items to make it)
~ice cream cones (we used these colored ones for our family but used brown ones to give away)
~chocolate icing
~sprinkles
~white icing
~food colorings
~chocolate chips for garnishing (two per cupcake)
~Mike N Ikes
~baggies for piping (or a piping bag and lid)

Directions
~bake cupcakes according to package directions
~while they are cooling, split the icing as follows: a couple spoonsful of white to keep it white, just a spoonful of white to make green, a spoonful of white to make it red, and the rest to be green.  When using food coloring always use just a drop at a time, then mix until you get the color you desire.  I used the neon food coloring to make the bright green of the face.
~Once the cupcakes are cooled, take the wrappers off and frost the top with the green.  Lay sideways.
~Take your chocolate chips and frost point with a bit of white frosting (or you could use the same as the face, but I liked mine to look like eyeballs in the white of the eye..) Push into frosted cupcake at top for eyes.
~Put red frosting in the piping bag or the corner of a Ziploc bag with the very corner cut off.  Make smiles at the bottom of the cupcake.
~Use the green Mike N Ikes for noses.
~I used the green frosting (also piping bag or Ziploc with corner cut) for warts on the witch's face.
~Put some chocolate icing in the bag and frost hair onto the top side of the (sideways) cupcake.
~Also frost edge of ice cream cone then dip in the sprinkles. Then put the cone on the hair.

There's your witch!!  Super cute and fun!!  They are great to be used for party treats, treats to give away, or just to give the kids the ingredients and let them decorate their own!

Have a happy day~Kasey

~You could also use pull-n-peel licorice for the mouth instead of the red frosting.
~Another substitute could be to get the small tubes of green/red frosting for the smile and warts instead of the colored frosting!
~Mini chocolate chips would be great too!

30 Days of Halloween~Day 9 my Boo Wreath!

I truly love my Halloween wreath!  I made it two years ago.  It's super easy!  The yarn wreaths seem a little time consuming, but you can get a lot done while watching a movie or a television show.

Really easy (and it didn't break the bank)!!

Items needed
~Styrofoam wreath
~yarn
~embellishment (I got my boo sign at the dollar store)

You just wrap the wreath, alternating colors as you wish.  I hot glued my very beginning and ending pieces but the other ends I just wrapped over so they stayed nice and tight!  The hanging boo sign has that little loop at the top which I just wrapped yarn through so it was hanging there.

I am so excited to get my wreath out and hang it on my door for Halloween!!

Have a happy day~Kasey

30 Days of Halloween~Day 6 Crafting with kids

Today I'm going to share some of our favorite family crafts!  They are super cute and fun..and of course very easy and kid-friendly!

First up~the spider...The kids pick out the colors of construction paper they want.  They cut out a body in one color then draw, color, cut and paste, etc. a face.  Then pick a color and cut 8 legs. Then they do the accordion fold on the legs.    Glue them on..WA-LA a spider!!!
(I have to say...this one was my favorite last year)!!
I let the kids pick a place and hang it up.  We also do it with our ghosts...not the most classic or beautiful or exciting decorations, but the kids love to see them up all month long!

Here are the ghosts..All you need is white paper plates (2 per kid) and white streamers.  Then you can use things to draw a face or construction paper to cut and paste one onto one plate.  Next they cut out streamers..most of mine did about 6, then glue them onto the back of the plate.  We have our plates upside down so the face is on the bottom of the plate and the streamers are glued to the top of the plate.  Finally glue the other plate into the other one..upside down again so they are stuck together, not so it's ballooned out.  This just helps keep those streamers in place!  And there's your ghost!!!
Again~super easy, fun, and the kids love them!!

Here's one I found at Domestic Charm and I can't wait to do them this year!
See~SO cute right?!?!  Just go right here and you can see her tutorial for it!  The kids are going to love these!!

Now~go get crafting with those crazy kids in your life!!  Have a happy day~Kasey
